Reference Models and Reference Architectures – Caveat Emptor

Reference models and reference architectures in enterprise architecture (EA) have lost credibility because they tend to be rigid, generic, over-documented, and disconnected from the realities of modern, fast-changing businesses. At the same time, most of what the internet offers as “best practice” is really just context-specific “published practice,” which organizations must critically evaluate and adapt rather than adopt blindly.
